Jefferson Murdoch

I was a competitive triathlete in my youth in South Africa with some success given my strength in swimming and cycling. Most of my adult life I have been involved in road cycling and mountain biking. I connected with an old friend Heinrich Vermaak in 2022 who encouraged me to join para-triathlon as a guide. Heinrich is a visually impaired triathlete who has less than 10% vision and lost all his independence a few years ago. We have been training and competing in para-triathlon events in South Africa throughout 2023 and we are excited to see how far we can take it. We are both in our late 40’s, married with children, but triathlon has given us youth again! I am inspired by what Heinrich is able to achieve as a visually impaired person and I am proud and humbled to be his guide. Thank you to TSA and World Triathlon for giving us this opportunity that allows Heinrich to experience sporting freedom and inspire others to move past self-limiting beliefs!
